FS#112 - Add Google customer tags

We have been using Google ads for over a year now but Mina wanted to know how our new customers from Google ads behave. I have just had a quick look on the Shopify help centre to see if we can 'tag customers' to then review their behaviour but this seems quite technical - https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/reports-and-analytics/google-analytics/google-tag-manager and I'm not completely sure this is the right way to do it.

Do you think this if the right way to review the behaviours of new customers from Google ads or is there a better/easier way to do it?

Additional comments about closing:  I have done what I can, but no one seems at all bothered. I'm not sure, having been a requested feature, that anyone is using this. So closing task in a huff!

Need Shopify Plus account. See if there's a way of adding code in manually. Maybe that the Shopify Plus account is needed to cope with the Shopify to payment gateway and back to Shopify tracking.

From Shopify support:

"As of August 13, 2024, checkout.liquid for the information, shipping, and payment pages will be turned off and no longer supported.

As of August 28, 2025, checkout.liquid for the thank you and order status pages will be turned off and no longer supported. This also includes turning off apps using script tags and additional scripts under the post-purchase and order status pages. Shopify Scripts will continue to work alongside checkout extensibility until this date.

Shopify Plus merchants can now use checkout extensibility to customize their checkout, thank you, order status, and customer account pages."

I will investigate checkout extensibility, We may need to retire out liquid theme to get this working.

Google Tag Manager code of GTM-KP5K4Z embedded in to Shopify theme theme.liquid. This is the GTM flag for the IgennusLtd account. It now passes the basic GTM test that Google can detect this GTM code. This may be as far as it can be taken. We cannot access the checkout page code, are there any other pages we cannot access.

Does this work in the app pages, e.g. Bold?
